Step 1
Sit on the floor with your knees drawn up toward your chest and the soles of your feet on the floor.You need a hard surface to provide resistance against the tennis ball.
Step 2
Lean away from the affected buttock.Place a tennis ball beneath the affected buttock.
Step 3
Shift your weight back onto the affected buttock and on top of the tennis ball.You may feel pain or tenderness in the muscle around the tennis ball.
Step 4
Open the knee of the affected leg outward and back in to ma*sage the muscle with the tennis ball.The pain and tenderness may increase and recede as you move your leg.
Tips and Warnings
How far you move your knee depends on your personal comfort level.You may be able to touch your knee to the floor or you may only be able to move it a little.You can also hold your knee in different positions to stretch and ma*sage different parts of the muscle.
